Why do you need to remove pages from a PDF?
PDF documents accumulate, combine and get re-edited. It\'s common to end up with a PDF that has surplus pages: an old cover that no longer applies, blank pages that resulted from a misconfigured merge, annexes that don\'t apply to this recipient, or advertisement pages added by conversion software. Removing those unnecessary pages improves document presentation, reduces its size and facilitates reading.
The good news is you don\'t need Adobe Acrobat or any other program installed. Our online tool lets you remove pages from any PDF from the browser in less than a minute.
Remove pages vs. Extract pages vs. Split PDF
There are three related operations that are often confused. It\'s important to understand which one you need in each situation:
| Operation | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Remove pages | Deletes the selected pages from the PDF | When you want the original document without certain pages |
| Extract pages | Creates a new PDF with only the chosen pages | When you want a subset of pages as an independent document |
| Split PDF | Divides the document into several smaller PDFs | When you want to separate the document into logical parts |
Practical example: You have a 20-page report and want to remove pages 15-18 (a confidential annex) before sending it to an external client. The correct operation is remove pages. If instead you want to send only that annex to another person, the operation is extract pages.
How to remove pages from a PDF (step by step)
- Access the tool: Go to remove pages from PDF.
- Upload your PDF: Drag the file or select it from your computer. The document loads and displays a thumbnail preview of all pages.
- Select pages to delete: Click the thumbnails of pages you want to remove. They mark with a highlight or an X. You can select multiple non-consecutive pages.
- Confirm and process: Press "Delete selected pages". The tool generates the PDF without those pages.
- Download the result: The resulting PDF (with pages removed) downloads automatically.
Efficiently select pages
For long documents, manual page-by-page selection can be slow. Our tool offers quick selection options:
- Page range: Type "5-12" to select all pages between 5 and 12
- Specific pages: Type "1,4,7,15" to select specific non-consecutive pages
- Even/odd pages: Useful for removing all blank pages from documents scanned double-sided
- First/last page: Quick buttons for cover and back cover
Most common use cases
Remove blank pages
When merging several PDFs or converting documents from Word or Excel, intermediate blank pages are common. These pages waste space and confuse the reader. Removing them is one of the most frequent operations and our tool visually detects them in the thumbnails.
Remove old covers and back covers
If you reuse a report template and change the cover, it\'s common for the final PDF to have both the new and old cover. Removing the original cover is immediate.
Delete pages with sensitive information
When sharing documents with third parties, you sometimes need to remove pages with confidential data: internal prices, information about other clients, employee personal data, etc.
Clean up form PDFs
Auto-generated form PDFs sometimes include instruction pages or terms and conditions you don\'t need to include when sending the completed form.
Remove advertisement pages
Some PDFs downloaded from the internet include advertisement pages at the beginning or end, added by the website or conversion service. Remove them in seconds.
Extract pages as a separate document
If you need the opposite case — creating a new PDF with only certain pages — use our PDF page extraction tool. The process is very similar: you select the pages you want to keep and a new PDF is generated with only those pages.
How much does the resulting PDF weigh?
The size of the resulting PDF is proportional to the number of pages you keep. If you remove 10 out of 30 pages, the resulting PDF will weigh approximately two-thirds of the original. However, some PDFs have globally referenced resources (fonts, images), so size reduction isn\'t always perfectly proportional.
If you need to further reduce the PDF size, use our PDF compression tool after removing pages.
Does it work with protected PDFs?
PDFs with opening password require you to enter the password before you can edit them. PDFs with edit restrictions but no opening password can usually be processed normally in most cases. If the document has strict edit protection, you\'ll need to first unlock the PDF with the owner\'s password.
